Wardrobe Essentials: The Transition from Winter to Spring

Contrary to what the weather man suggests, spring is right around the corner (March 20th to be exact!) which means you only have 4 weeks to update your wardrobes! Though we are dying to jump into all the 2015 spring fashion trends we first must scope our wardrobe to prep for the transition into the new season. Many of these trends are actually revamped versions of styles we have loved before. From crop tops, lace up detailing, and of course, our timeless favorite---leather! But the good news is this means instead of setting out to buy a whole new wardrobe, adding a few key pieces to the already existing gems hanging in your closet can leave you with a fully updated look!

Love them layers!
The know-all, be-all of transitioning from winter to spring is: layering! This is a widely seen trend on the runway this spring. Adding a brightly colored cardigan to a flowy white blouse is ideal for in the mornings when the air still has a winter bite and can be shed later in the afternoon as temperatures rise. Sweaters or cardigans can be worn with skinny jeans now and paired with some high waisted denim cut offs come April or May. An A-line or flared skirt is also a transitional friend. Team a pleated style with a roll neck top now and then with a tee in the coming months.

You're the Vest!
The very best of friends in the layering world, vests are excellent as they can be worn over any long sleeve top, be it solid or patterned, and removed as the day warms up. A puffy or knit styled vest is the perfect way to blend a little bit of winter personality and keep you warm rather than drowning in a bulky jacket when the temperatures are, well, temperamental. Seersucker vests are all the rage this spring!

White--the new Black!
As we bid the snow to melt away, all shades of white are dusting the runways! A crisp, clean white top or pant is a fun alternative to the wintry blacks and greys. Any white piece with fresh shapes, patterns and silhouettes are a great change of pace! Be it a bright bleached white or an off white--all hues are a go!

Just Rose-y!
Fun, floral frocks are back! As much as we love those muted floral patterns of winter, it's finally time to add a little flare of color. A flouncy floral top or dress is fantastic either worn with a neutral blazer to the office or paired with heeled sandals for after-work drinks with the girls!

Go-go for boho!
Break out those patterned maxi dresses! Loose dresses transition from winter to spring very well and the baby doll style is a very popular one. For added warmth for chilly mornings, layer with a sweater and sturdy shoes such as boots. Too cold for exposed legs? Skip tights or leggings and try knee-high or thigh high socks, an update on the school girl aesthetic which is making a come back. These light layers can be shed as temperatures climb.

Add a little bling!
This time of year we are so accustomed to an understated color palette. But now is the time to throw in some "wow" factor to your accessories to make your look pop. Graphic pieces will echo a little drama against any outfit. A black or brown bag with some shine or avant-garde hardware will harmonize well with your seasonal wardrobe transition. And feathers are in -- again! Make a subtle entrance with a feather-trimmed clutch or a long necklace donned with charms and a colorful quill.

Outta' sight!
Designers are still obsessed with the opulent era that was the 70s! From flared trousers, jean skirts and retro collars to fringed sweaters and jackets, these psychedelic styles are groovin' once again, baby! More easily accomplished of these trends are the innovative patterns which were synonymous of the time. Optical prints, neon florals, and geometric motifs make for an ideal mimic of this "radical" age with a modern twist. Play with vibrant hues and unexpected designs to create that perfect, timeless look.

Statement stripes
Thanks to Coco Chanel back in the roaring 20s, stripes have been iconic high fashion and now--they are in for everyone! Be it a sweater or a clutch, stripes are on everything! Match a striped shirt with a pair of jeans or khakis now and later with a high waisted skirt for a more dramatic front.

Accessorize with a scarf
Who says scarves are for winter? Lightweight scarves are the perfect addition to your spring wardrobe. Add a pop of color to a solid top or dress with a fun scarf. Scarves are a great statement piece!

Spring 2015 will be an exciting fashion-scape but remember--don't push those spring items too quickly. A warm fashionista is by far more appealing than one freezing her butt off at the bus stop! In the meantime, throw in a dash of color to break that preconceived notion that winter must always drown in a sea of blacks, browns, and greys.
